For Our Patients
CARE OF BONDED PORCELAIN AND COMPOSITE RESTORATIONS
- Please avoid eating or drinking anything hot until the numbness wears off. Be very careful not to bite your lip, cheek, or tongue during this time.
- There may be some sensitivity around the gum or at the injection site for a couple of days. A saltwater rinse may be helpful in soothing these areas.
- There may be some cold sensitivity and pressure sensitivity from very hard or crunchy foods, for several months. These symptoms should gradually diminish.
- If you feel like you are biting on the restored tooth early, or hitting "high" on that tooth, please call us for a minor adjustment. Bonded restorations are very hard and require that they be placed in perfect occlusion. Minor adjustments are normal.
- If the tooth starts to develop sensitivity to heat or swelling develops, please call our office immediately. Dr. Hollar can also be reached at home at 817-460-4605.
- Abrasive toothpastes such as "tarter" control pastes, should be avoided, as the abrasiveness can dull and damage the shiny appearance of your restorations. We recommend Crest regular toothpaste for your everyday care.
- If you are one of our out of town guests, please remind your regular hygienist to avoid using prophy pastes and ultrasonic scalers, as they too may be damaging to bonded restorations.
