Advanced restorative and cosmetic dentistry requires hundreds of hours of post-graduate training. It may surprise you to learn that the vast majority of dental schools do not teach any courses in cosmetic or advanced restorative dentistry, and for the few that do, they are usually limited to a few introductory courses. Gifted with an artistic eye, a rigorous program of post-graduate training, and a relentless pursuit of excellence, Dr. Hollar has become one of the highest trained and most credentialed dentists in the world today. Her accomplishments are many, including being one of only two dentists in the world to be both accredited by the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry and a Pankey Scholar.
A 1975 graduate at Baylor College of Dentistry Dental Hygiene School, Susan earned her dental degree in 1980 also from Baylor. She has since maintained a private practice in Arlington, Texas limiting her services to advanced restorative and cosmetic procedures. She completed continuing educational courses from the world renowned: The Peter Dawson Institute, The L. D. Pankey Institute, The John Kois Center, The Eubank Teaching Institute, and The Seattle Institute. She is a member of the ADA, AGD, AAWD, TDA, FWDDS, and is an accredited member of the AACD. She is a lecturer, teacher, author, and an expert in full mouth reconstruction and cosmetic dentistry, where she has fitted over twenty thousand porcelain veneers in her career. In addition to her private practice, Dr. Hollar is a visiting faculty member of The Seattle Institute and The L. D. Pankey Institute.
Dr. Hollar was the first female dentist in the State of Texas to be accredited by the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (AACD). Founded in 1984, AACD is the world's largest organization devoted to the science and art of cosmetic dentistry with over 7,000 members in the U.S. and in 40 countries around the world. The AACD administers the leading accreditation program for cosmetic dentistry. The accreditation process is a rigorous program. AACD requires dentists to attend a number of continuing education courses in cosmetic dentistry, be tested, and submit a number of cosmetic cases to be judged by a panel of cosmetic dentistry experts. Today there are fewer than 250 accredited members of the AACD in the world (www.AACD.com).
Dr. Hollar is an examiner for the AACD and serves as a board member on their ABCD board. She is a contributing editor for the Journal of Cosmetic Dentistry and has written numerous articles for the Journal. Her passion for teaching and lecturing has allowed many opportunities to share advanced restorative and cosmetic procedures to hundreds of dentists around the United States and Canada.
Founded in 1972, The Pankey Institute is a nonprofit organization in Key Biscayne, Florida that promotes optimal oral health care through advanced continuing education for dentists (www.pankey.org). It was the first institute of its kind and remains among the most prestigious, attracting dentists from 42 nations to its educational programs. It is estimated that nearly 20,000 dentists and specialists have attended L. D. Pankey courses and now serve millions of patients worldwide.
The Pankey Institute is named in honor of the legendary Dr. L. D. Pankey, who was an early pioneer and leader in advanced restorative dentistry. Dr. Pankey taught hundreds of dentists while maintaining a private practice in Coral Gables, Florida for over forty years. He continued to lecture at The Pankey Institute until his death in 1999 at the age of ninety-eight.

Dr. Susan Hollar became a student at The Pankey Institute in 1984, and completed the entire continuum of courses in 1999. In 2001, Dr. Hollar became a member of the visiting faculty with The Pankey Institute, and each year generously donates her time and energy by lecturing and teaching other students the art of optimal dentistry. She currently is a lead faculty member for the aesthetic continuum offered at the Institute.
In 2007, Dr. Hollar became one of only thirty-seven dentists in the world to become designated a Pankey Scholar. A Pankey Scholar dentist has made a determined effort to rise to the highest level of her or his capability. These highly accomplished individuals have demonstrated their levels of understanding and implementation of their Pankey-training, and have been shown to possess excellent clinical, behavioral and managerial skills. They are continual students and learners and will settle for nothing less than their best effort for the benefit of those patients who seek their services. In short, they exemplify the highest levels of care, skill and judgment that one would expect of a Pankey-trained dentist. Pankey-Trained Dentist

Complete understanding of advanced occlusal and esthetic principals help the Pankey-trained dentist offer optimal care to their patients. The goal is to help create and maintain long-lasting comfort, function, and naturally beautiful teeth.
One of Dr. Hollar's greatest mementos of The Pankey Institute is a hand-written letter from L. D. Pankey to one of his “new young students”. Note the date of July 4th, 1986 at the bottom of the letter.

“Dr. Pankey has had a profound positive effect on my life and career. His passion for dentistry and love for his students will not be forgotten.”
Susan Hollar, D.D.S.
Dr. Hollar was recently asked to join the Seattle Institute for Advanced Dental Education as a visiting faculty member. Founded in 1981 by Dr. Frank Spear, the SIADE provides dentists with knowledge, skills and expertise required for the ever-changing field of dentistry. The Institute provides dental professionals and their staff the knowledge to achieve these goals and to practice with confidence.
The ability to practice with confidence is developed through training and experience. The SIADE continuing education curriculum provides dentists knowledge in step by step diagnosis and complex treatment planning which integrates esthetics, occlusion, restoration and periodontics. Mastery of the skills taught in these courses allows each dentist to practice a level of dentistry which sets them apart from their colleagues and makes the experience for their patients truly exceptional.
More can be learned about the Seattle Institute by visiting their website at www.seattleinstitute.com.
Dr. Hollar's commitment for continuing education is also shared by her staff. Each staff member attends a minimum of six days per year outside of the office learning various aspects of restorative dentistry, cosmetic dentistry, practice management, dental laboratory procedures, and hygiene advancements. Every procedure performed in our office is accomplished to the very best of our ability, and our abilities will never cease to grow and to improve through our continuous quest for excellence. Skill and tender loving care combined with our knowledge of dentistry ensures both excellent dental care and a positive dental experience.
